WiSe 13/14: American Politics and International Organizations
Tilman Pietz
Kommentar
America's relationship with international organizations during the last 80 years has been marked by profound ambivalence. On the one hand the impulse to create international organizations has almost always come from the U.S. government and enthusiastic American non-governmental organizations. On the other hand America's political system more than once contributed to the failure of international organizations, the most prominent example being the rejection of the League of Nations covenant. In this "Vertiefungsseminar" we will explore how American politics has shaped the fate of international organizations during the last century thereby gaining insight into how the American political system has operated in the field of foreign policy and global governance.
