WiSe 13/14: Introduction to European Integration
Theresa Kuhn
Kommentar
Since its inception, the European integration process has been marked by great leaps forward and some major setbacks. In the past two decades, however, it has emerged as a key political actor that affects the daily lives of nearly 500 million people. The lecture focuses on this ambiguous political system, its history and current state. It discusses major theoretical approaches to explain European integration and present a detailled analysis of European institutions and its decision making processes. The course will provide a thorough understanding of the EU by combining factual information and theoretical debates.
The lecture is structured into three parts: First, historical precursors, models, theories the history of the European Union itself are discussed. The second part analyses the European institutions and their decision making processes in depth. The final third part discusses the societal bases of the European Union and the integration process.
The Lecture and reference literature will be in English.
