Kommentar
This class offers the opportunity not just to students who are planning or who have started to work on their Diplom or M.A. thesis in North American Studies or Political Science, but to all Hauptstudium and M.A. students, to learn the skills of writing research papers. You are strongly encouraged to participate in this process, as these skills tend not to receive sufficient attention in the regular seminar. Many students find it helpful, before diving into their own research project, to observe and learn from how others struggle with and receive support in defining a workable research question, developing an adequate methodology, and finding appropriate ways to present their findings.
The focus is on writing social-scientific papers; frequently, topics deal with North American or comparative social, economic and other domestic politics. Often issues of comparative research and their attendant challenges come up, which, regardless of the specific topic, have proven productive for students working on unrelated topics as well.
All students desiring to write their thesis with me are required to attend this class and present their project at least once. Schließen
