Stefanie Hirsbrunner; Omojuwa, Japheth
Kommentar
Most of
Africa like Nigeria has democratised. Therefore the next challenge is to
make these democracies truly representative of the people's wishes.
Starting
with discussing central questions asked along the momentous events of the Black
emancipation struggle in the 1960s, this seminar aims to take a closer look on
the practice of civil disobedience in Africa today and its chances as well as
its challenges.
What has
changed since Rosa Parks, Mahatma Ghandi and Martin Luther King when it comes
to so called People Power Movements? What forms and practices of civil disobedience
are used to express moral discontent, outrage and political interest nowadays?
With the
example of the Occupy Movement in Nigeria this seminar will also examine what
role new forms of media can play in African uprisings.
Dieses
Seminar wird unterstützt vom Goethe-Institut Nigeria. www.goethe.de/nigeria
