Wolfram Keller
Kommentar
This seminar aims to familiarize students with eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Scottish poetry. The focus will be especially on the way in which the poetry of these two centuries represents and negotiates Anglo-Scottish relationships. In a few introductory sessions, late eighteenth and nineteenth-century Anglo-Scottish (literary) relations will be contextualized historically and politically. During the remainder of the semester, we will then closely analyze individual poems by Scottish poets, especially the way in which the latter represent Scottish culture as well as how eighteenth- and nineteenth-century poetry refracts Anglo-Scottish relationships. We will study poems by Lady Grizel Baillie, Allan Ramsay, Robert Fergusson, Robert Burns, Carolina Oliphant, James Hogg, Walter Scott, Lord Byron, Robert Louis Stevenson, and others. A detailed syllabus and a reading list will be available at the end of September - students interested in this seminar should contact me by email () by 1 October 2013. Schließen
