WiSe 13/14: Literary and Cultural Theories-HS: Linear vs. Serial Narration
Ulla Haselstein /Andreas Mahler
Kommentar
According to A.C. Danto, a 'narrative sentence' is: (1) x is F in t-1; (2) H happens to x in t-2; (3) x is G in t-3. With E.M. Forster, this can be redescribed as 'story' ("The king died and then the queen died") and 'plot' ("The king died and then the queen died of grief"). The seminar will discuss these linear, and largely syntagmatic, conceptions of storytelling with reference to the analytical narrative category of 'time: order' (Genette) and explore their impasses, paradoxes, and circumventions in what has been described as narrative 'serialization' or 'paradigmatization'. Participants interested in the seminar are requested to contact one of the seminar leaders before the start of the semester. Schließen
