Andreas Mahler
Kommentar
"In our opinion the problem of carnivalized literature is one of the very important problems in historical poetics, and in particular in the poetics of genre." (Bakhtin) The seminar, which will be divided into a plenary session (Tues. 18.00-19.30) and an additional hour for group discussions (Tues. 19.30-20.15; see section IV), will take up Bakhtin's observation and explore the basic principles and techniques of 'carnivalesque' text-making with regard to the idea of a poetics of 'equivalence'. Texts likely to be read: Ben Jonson, Bartholmew Fair; Chaucer, "Sir Thopas"; Richard Brome, A Jovial Crew; Pope, The Dunciad; Swift, A Tale of a Tub. Schließen
