Berit Johannsen
Comments
In this course, students will be introduced to the study of language. Basic linguistic concepts and terminology for description and analysis will be presented by investigating the English language. Their application will be practiced in exercises during the seminar. We will proceed by going through the levels of linguistic investigation (phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics). Students will also receive an insight into fields of linguistics, such as historical linguistics and sociolinguistics, as well as methods and tools for linguistic studies.
Course requirements are regular attendance, homework (reading and exercises), and a final exam.
