Seminar
WiSe 13/14: Sociology of Migration
Silke Hans
Comments
Based on sociological theories of migration and immigrant integration, and taking into account recent empirical studies, the seminar will take a comparative look at the situation of migrants in Europe. These are some of the questions we will focus on: Which are the most relevant past and current migration movements within and to Europe? What are the structural causes and individual motivations of migration? Which patterns of immigrant integration can we observe? Is there evidence of so called transnational spaces? What are the consequences of migration for host and sending societies, for local communities and for migrants and their families?
