WiSe 13/14: Magnetism - from fundamental effects to applications
Wolfgang Kuch
Comments
The presentations will cover various aspects of modern magnetism research. Interesting fundamental effects will be presented that have led to or are envisioned to lead to practical applications.
Some examples are: Giant magnetoresistance, anisotropic magnetoresistance, spin-dependent tunneling, spin-torque effect, current-induced domain wall motion, molecular magnetism, interlayer exchange coupling, magneto-electric coupling, all-optical magnetization reversal.
closeSuggested reading
The fundamentals are mostly found in specialized text books (for example, Siegmann, Stöhr: Magnetism, Hillebrands, Ounadjela: Spin Dynamics in Confined Magnetic Structures, Bland, Heinrich: Ultrathin magnetic structures, Gatteschi, Sessoli, Villain: Molecular Nanomagnets). close
