WiSe 14/15: American Foreign Relations (1776-1865)
Tilman-Ulrich Pietz
Kommentar
The roughly 100 years between American independence and the end of the Civil War saw the rise of a nation from colony to hemispheric power. We will explore how the new actor positioned itself within the international system of the 19th century. By "foreign relations", the instructor means the analysis not just of actions between personnel of the US and foreign governments, but also actions by private individuals and organizations which impacted on relations between the US and other countries.
