WiSe 14/15: Media Representations of Others: Challenges and Opportunities

This class tackles a central predicament of mediated communication: How to represent others in an authentic and appropriate way. A special focus is on reporting crises and catastrophes and reporting human suffering. The seminar also critically interrogates movements such as peace journalism, cosmopolitan journalism and post-humanitarianism. In particular, we ask if the media promote or hinder a positive outlook on cultural diversity and civic understanding. Schließen
