This class investigates the role of old and new media in creating a productive public sphere in an increasingly globalizing world. Using key concepts in communication, cultural, and globalization studies, the course covers topics such as the impact of media on foreign affairs; the shortcomings of international journalism; the possibilities of digital communication for international exchange and development; and the impact of social media during recent uprisings in Northern Africa and the Middle East. The class will enable students to assess the potential of media and digital technology to foster international understanding and cooperation. Schließen
