The main points of the course are to give students an understanding of modern database trends. Some of the topics we will cover are:
- The Cap theorem and the problem of network partitioning
 - NoSQL databases
 - NewSQL database concepts
 - Functional or distributed databases
 - Big Data mining and realtime systems
 - and finally given time even explore database querying via the GPU or accelerator cards
