Introduction to Teaching English as a Foreign Language
This course provides an overview of the basic principles, concepts and open questions in the field of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).
Topics covered will include: history and perspectives of English language teaching; TEFL's foundations - psychology, linguistics, pedagogy; theory of second/foreign language acquisition; curriculum and curriculum decisions; overview of methods (historical and systematic); literature and cultural studies; textbook analysis and evaluation; characteristics of a good lesson; language testing.
Methodology: Practical activities, group work, lectures and discussions.
Course Assessment: Term paper.
Requirements: Use of English in class, although some lessons will be held in German (CEF: C1/C2).
