Undergraduate Course
WiSe 14/15: Konflikt, Sicherheit und Entwicklung
Lukasz Kowalczyk
Comments
The course examines issues of security and development in their mutual interaction rather than as
separate areas of academic enquiry and policy-making. It brings together these interrelated areas of
study, acknowledging that a full understanding of them requires a holistic approach, including: 1) major
debates concerning the process of development and its relationship to violent conflict, 2) the impact of
violent conflict on development and conversely, 3) linkages between issues of security and development
in the aftermath of violent conflict, and 4) Policy Making for Development and Security. The aims of
the course is to enhance students’ analytical, research, and critical thinking skills, to provide them with
detailed practical knowledge of conflict, security, and development around the world. close
