WiSe 14/15: Dynamics of Health Care Reform in the US in comparative Perspective
Gergana Stolarova
Comments
The course will introduce the students to basic concepts of health care policy and health care systems. In particular, it will focus on the process of health care reform in the United States in historical and comparative perspective. Students can broaden their knowledge of theories of welfare state development and policy change and improve their understanding of comparative research designs. The course will analyze the role different political actors (e.g. interest groups, the president, Congress, state governments, and federal and state courts) in the reform dynamics and encourage the students to study primary documents as presidential speeches, congressional hearings, and court opinions. At the end of the course, the students can develop their own (comparative) research project and discuss it in class. close
