WiSe 14/15: Plasmonics - basics and applications
Martina Schmid
Comments
The course will cover the topic of plasmonics from the fundamental physical principles to current research and applications. The basis are the three types of plasmons usually distinguished: volume plasmons occurring in bulk metals, surface plasmon polaritons at the interface of a dielectric to a metal and localized surface plasmons as they can be found for metal nanoparticles. We will then take a look at how the plasmons may be excited and characterized, e.g. by using scanning near-field optical microscopy. With respect to applications we will amongst others have a particular focus on the implementation into thin film solar cells for light management purpose. Furthermore, modeling and computational electromagnetics for plamonics will be addressed. close
