Regina Scheibe
Kommentar
The series of lectures will provide an introduction to major Scottish works of the second half of the sixteenth century. Particular attention will be paid to the love poems of Alexander Scott, the leading lyricist of the court of Mary Queen of Scots, to the allegorical work of Alexander Montgomerie, one-time favourite of James VI of Scotland, and to Sir David Lindsay of the Mount's Satyre of the Thrie Estaitis (1552), the first Scottish drama preserved to us. This theatrical masterpiece combines personification allegory with political satire and gives a vivid insight into Scottish life shortly before the Reformation in 1560.
Language of instruction: English. Required language level: C1-C2.
A reader of the relevant primary texts will be made available to students at the beginning of the semester. Schließen
