Kommentar

This course will serve as an advanced introduction to General Linguistics for postgraduate students with differing scientific backgrounds. The basic question "What is language?" will be tackled throughout the course from a biolinguistic point of view, incorporating issues of synchrony and diachrony, i.e. of language system and language change, into a unified perspective. The course begins by dispelling common misunderstandings about language, thus bringing issues of language ideology to the fore. Having attending this course, students should be equipped to approach issues of Modern Greek studies with a coherent and scholarly self-conscious background in contemporary linguistic theory.
