WiSe 15/16: History of African Americans

This lecture focuses on the history of African Americans after the end of the American Civil War. It extends to the 1980s and thus encompasses the history of the Jim Crow Era, the great Migration, the Harlem Renaissance, the Great Depression and the early civil rights movement after 1945. The African American struggle for equal rights, but also factors of structural discrimination and organizational racism will be addressed from a political, social, economical and cultural perspective. Select historiographical controversies will serve to engage with important theoretical and methodological problems. Schließen
