WiSe 15/16: Queer theory, Queer politics
Benjamin James Trott
Kommentar
In this seminar, we look at what defines queer theory and politics, including their origins within – and points of divergence from – Gay and Lesbian Studies, LGBT movements, and feminist theory and practice. We explore the relationship between non-normative gender expressions and gay and lesbian life, and how debates around the ‘intersection’ of race, gender and other identities have shaped queer scholarship and social movements. The role played by the AIDS crisis in reconfiguring gay, lesbian and queer life, politics and activism is examined; and we look at how so-called ‘anti-normativity’ has come to define the queer project.
All readings and seminar discussion will be in English.
