WiSe 15/16: Nationalismus - Entstehungsgründe, Verbreitung und Einhegung von Gewalt und ethnischer Mobilisierung anhand europäischer Beispiele

"Protracted conflicts over the status and demands of ethnic and religious groups have caused more instability and loss of human life than any other type of local, regional, and international conflict since the end of WWII", schreibt eine Forscherin der Universität Stanford. Das Seminar untersucht anhand sozialwissenschaftlicher Texte und osteuropäischer Fallstudien wie Nationalismus entsteht und wann und warum es zur Gewalt führt. Es werden einige der Hauptthemen in der soziologischen Nationalismusforschung diskutiert, wie etwa das Verhältnis zwischen Nationalismus, Gewalt und ethnischer Mobilisierung, Sourcen nationaler Identität und nationaler Identitätsdiskurse (unter besonderer Berücksichtigung solcher Quellen wie etwa Sprache); Verbreitung und Kritik konstruktivistischer Ansätze in der Nationalismusforschung. Das Seminar geht von der These aus, dass in der früheren ("ersten Welle") Nationalismusforschung das Thema der Entstehungsgründe des Nationalismus dominierte (siehe etwa die Texte von Ernest Gelner oder Eric Hobsbawm), während sich heutzutage die Forschung hauptsächlich mit dem Thema der Gewalt beschäftigt. Das Seminar wird viele Fallstudien einbeziehen (in der Regel ein empirischer Fall einer nationalistischen Bewegung pro Sitzung), die meisten in Bezug auf die Sowjetunion und das post-kommunistische Europa - unter anderen auch die Lage in der Donbass-Region und auf der Krim in der Ukraine. Studierende dürfen aber für ihre Präsentationen auch nationalistische Bewegungen oder Aspekte des Nationalismus in anderen europäischen (also west- oder südeuropäischen) Ländern einbeziehen. close
