Lecture
WiSe 15/16: Modern Algorithms for Big Data
Kashif Rasul
Information for students
Note: Lecture will be in English.
Additional information / Pre-requisites
Unlike my other courses, this one will be more theoretical but also involve some hands-on programming exercises.
Prerequisites: Must have taken Algorithms and Databases.
Comments
In many modern workflows the data one deals with no longer fits in the memory of a single node, or arrives incrementally over time and is usually noisy/uncertain and typically it is all these cases. This course deals with the development and analysis of algorithms for dealing with such Big Data workflows as well as their limitations.
We will look into:
* sketching
* streaming
* dimensionality reduction
* big matrix algorithms
* sparse signals
* map-reduce
* Resilient distributed datasets
* random walks
Unlike my other courses, this one will be more theoretical but also involve some hands-on programming exercises.
