WiSe 15/16: Topics in Macroeconomics

Topics in Macroeconomics will focus primarily on the issues of open
economy macroeconomics in the context of the U.S. economy. In the first
part of the class the students will be introduced to basic concepts such
as exchange rates, purchasing power parity, the balance of payments and
learn the standard properties of the Mundell-Fleming model. The second
part of the class will explore economics in times of financial crises by
focusing on contemporary events. Students will learn to become acquainted
with balance of payments crises, the fragility of financial systems and
asset price deflation.
Students and TeilnehmerInnen are expected to be present and active for at
least 4/5s of all classes and to complete all assignments over the course
of the semester. Students wishing to receive a grade in the course will be
given an in-class exam on the last class of the semester. The seminar will
be conducted in English, and any work should be in English as well. close
