WiSe 15/16: MÜ-Studying the Present Moment: Literary Reviewing: Theory, History and Practice
Sabine Schülting
Comments
The course will be concerned with a genre that is rarely addressed in Literary Studies: literary reviews. We will look at the history of reviewing from the days of 18th-century literary magazines until today, assess various approaches to literary reviewing, and differentiate between literary criticism and literary reviews. Students will also be asked to practice their own skills in writing reviews. More recent examples will be reviews on the Man Booker Prize winners of the last few years, i.e. the novels on the reading list of course 17395. Students may thus wish to attend both parts of the module.
Assessment: Students are expected to attend regularly and to participate in classroom activities (e.g. give short presentations and write reviews). close
