WiSe 15/16: MÜ-Interfacing Linguistics and Literature: Deictics in the Theatre
Andreas Mahler
Comments
Deictics or shifters are those linguistic signs that help situate an utterance. In fictions, they do not only connect texts to their extratextual context but rather create the very context they seem to be dependent on. In the theatre, this can become all the more complex since theatrical communication seems to be based on the superimposition of (at least) two deictic systems-the theatrical and the dramatic-at once. The tutorial will explore these world-making qualities of deictics on the (early modern) stage. close
