This lecture course introduces students to the aesthetic world of empires in regions under Islamic hegemony during the early modern era, including Andalusia, Persia, the Ottoman Empire, and India. It will consider the role of common aesthetic and cultural practices across diverse linguistic and religious boundaries in producing the discursive realm identified with the Islamic world. close
