WiSe 15/16: Introduction to the Middle Iranian languages
Desmond Durkin-Meisterernst
Comments
This course offers a survey of the six Middle Iranian languages Middle
Persian, Parthian, Bactrian, Sogdian, Khwarezmian and Saka against the
Old Iranian background and with some reference to modern Iranian
languages. Though all six languages will be presented, the Eastern
Middle Iranian languages will be the main interest: Bactrian, Sogdian,
Khwarezmian and Saka. In the following summer term a course on one of
the eastern Middle Iranian languages, to be chosen at the end of the
winter term, will follow.
The course will be in English but additional explanations will be
given in German as needed.
