Comments
Focus of the lecture is especially the carbon cycle, carbon dynamics and carbon fluxes in aquatic systems, and the related microbial processes (inland waters and oceans). Furthermore we will learn something about 1) the effects of allochthonous organic matter on production and respiration in lakes; 2) emission of carbon dioxide and methane from lakes and streams; 3) the influence of climate on lake ecosystem function. An important part is to integrate research on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems in order to understand the function of ecosystems and their response to environmental change. The seminar will be carried in the form of a practical compact course within 3 days at IGB Neuglobsow.
At the end of the course, participants will have in-depth knowledge about aquatic biogeochemical cycles, particularly the carbon cycle and the related microbial processes. They will be familiar with basic knowledge on current issues of climate change and its consequences for carbon flows in aquatic systems. close
