WiSe 16/17: Traditionelles chinesisches Theater aus komparatistischer Persepktive
Ágota Révész
Kommentar
The course is designed for students of drama/theatre to serve as an introduction to the narrative techniques, the manipulation of time and space and the character building process of traditional Chinese theatre. The course is largely comparative, drawing heavily on the normative types of Western theatre and requiring students to bring their knowledge on these into play. It also offers an outlook on how traditional Chinese theatre (most importantly Beijing opera) influenced the work of major European theatremakers (Meyerhold, Artaud, Brecht, Grotowski). The course is not going to detail certain elements (like costume, painted face) that students can find abundant material on; instead, it is designed to focus on the context for the Chinese actor’s creative work and to provide a different perspective of theatre besides factual knowledge. Recordings are used from a wide range of performances to immerse students in the repertoire of traditional Chinese theatre. Two Beijing opera actors will be invited for a workshop to introduce the students their own criteria for performance analysis. The course will be composed of lectures given by the instructor, class discussions of reading and DVD-material, and short oral presentations by the students. The language of the course will be English, follow-up discussions can be conducted in German. Schließen
