WiSe 16/17: Ringvorlesung: The Ecstasy of Gold: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Money

James Dorson Jonathan Fox

Comments

The JFKI Ringvorlesung is a series of lectures by scholars from the John F. Kennedy Institute and invited guest speakers on a special topic. This series serves to introduce JFKI scholars and their research interests to students, who will have the opportunity to participate in lectures from each of the six different departments in the JFKI. The JFKI Ringvorlesung will additionally serve to facilitate interactions between scholars and students over a specific theme. The theme of this lecture series is money: money and its immense—and immensely varying—significance in different North American historical, social, cultural, institutional, political, and economic contexts. Lecture topics will include subjects such as the significance of money in international cultural relations, the rise and fall of the gold standard, income inequality, changing regimes of accumulation, and the role of money in cultural production. close
