WiSe 16/17: Elementary Data Analysis
Philipp Eisnecker
Comments
This course aims to provide the basic procedures and principles of quantitative data analysis.
First, univariate statistics such as the median, the arithmetic mean, and the variance will be briefly presented.
These measures give a first overview how a certain characteristic (e.g. body height) is distributed within a population (e.g. among persons living in Berlin).
Secondly, measures of association (e.g., Cramer‘s V, Lambda) will be explained.
Such measures aim to provide answers to questions such as: is there a connection between body height and wages within a population?
Thirdly, the linear regression model, simple and multiple re-gression, will be discussed in detail.
Using these methods, we will be able to tell if taller persons earn more and if a possible relationship still holds if we take into account
that women are (on average) smaller than men. close
