WiSe 16/17: Global Discourses and Practices of Sustainable Development

This course will analyse some of the leading discourses in academia and international cooperation that are closely related to the promotion of sustainable development. Special emphasis will be paid to the concepts of green development and green growth, the sustainable development goals of the United Nations, climate justice, low-carbon lifestyles, blue economy, de-growth, eco-marxism and eco-civilization. The second part of the course will focus on policy making practices, collaborative governance arrangements and international cooperation project for the promotion of sustainable development. The weekend sessions will provide an opportunity for the instructor to invite international and development cooperation experts with different disciplinary background to talk about their professional experience and potential internship as well as job opportunities for students.
