Étale Cohomology is one of the most important cohomology theory in arithmetic and algebraic geometry. In this course we will give an introduction to the etale cohomology theory. In mathematics a cohomology theory provides important invariants for the objects one studies. For example in topology, one use the singular cohomology theory to understand toplogical spaces. The etale cohomology theory can be thought of as a parallel to the singular cohomology, but in the context of algebraic geometry. In this course we will first move the usual notion of a topological space to algebraic geometry using Grothendieck's viewpoint. Then we will construct the cohomology theory and study various properties concerning this cohomology theory.
