WiSe 16/17: Theory of Quantum Magnetism
Johannes Reuther
Comments
This lecture covers various fundamental aspects of quantum magnetism which lead to an understanding of magnetic materials on a microscopic level. We first give a brief introduction into different types of magnetic materials such as diamagnets, paramagnets, and (anti)ferromagnets, with a specific focus on strongly correlated materials. We will then discuss in detail how strong spin interactions arise and develop microscopic models for these materials. Thereby, we will consider spin systems such as Heisenberg and Ising models and discuss theoretical approaches to describe their phase diagrams and spin excitations.
