This seminar will investigate current American practice in Applied Theatre. Students will read excerpts from texts by Jan Cohen Cruz, James Thompson, Helen Nicholson, Monica Prendergast , Juliana Saxton, Anthony French, Jonothan Neelands, Tony Goode, Anthony Jackson, and Michael Rhod. Students will discuss the challenges of creating community-based projects in an international context and consider the opportunities for artists wishing to work in Applied Theatre in Germany. Using the current refugee situation as subject, students will visit a refugee camp and conduct some of the primary exercises used in creating community-based theatre projects.
