Sabine Schülting
Comments
The course will give an introduction to the questions, main approaches, and the terminology of Cultural Studies. After a discussion of the historical development of the idea of “culture”, the lectures and the discussions will mainly focus on contemporary cultural phenomena (e.g. constructions of Britishness, popular culture, youth culture, new media, constructions of masculinity and femininity etc.) as represented in different genres and media. These topics will serve as examples for studying the basic theories and methods in Cultural Studies. close
