WiSe 16/17: The American Animal
Mare Pit
Comments
The growing recognition that history might go beyond the human and that part of our human society is structured through interaction with non-human animals, has pushed for new ways to explore and think about history and culture. This course provides an introduction to the most influential ideas in this emerging field of human-animal studies. Students will analyze representations of animals and nature in American culture and trace shifts through different historical periods in ideas and narratives about nature and animals and the underlying relationship with humans. close
