Marie Catherine Menzel
Kommentar
This tutorial is designed to be taken in conjunction with the lecture “Introduction to Literary Studies: Basic Questions, Concepts, and Methods” and offers students a chance to apply to practice the knowledge they gain in that lecture. On the basis of a selection of poems, a prose text and a drama, they will be able to develop and hone their skills in the analysis and interpretation of literary texts. In addition, some pieces of literary criticism will be on the syllabus so that students may familiarise themselves with the task of reading and working with scholarly and theoretical material. The tutorial aims to give students the ability to understand and contextualise a historically and generically diverse range of texts and to talk and write about them in structured ways. In addition the class offers an introduction to academic writing and research techniques.
The class is taught in English.
Regular attendance and active participation are compulsory. Credits for the whole module can be obtained by taking a 90-minute exam (based on the lecture and tutorial).
Please note that the number of participants per tutorial is limited. Students must sign up via Campus Management in order to be allotted a place.
