The course will give an overview of the questions, main approaches, and terminology of Cultural Studies. After a discussion of what we mean when we speak of ‘culture’ and a brief sketch of the historical development of Cultural Studies, our discussions will focus on contemporary cultural phenomena (e.g. constructions of Britishness, popular culture, youth culture, constructions of masculinity and femininity etc.) as represented in different genres and media. These topics will serve as examples for introducing students to the basic theories and methods in Cultural Studies.

The course will be organised as a series of lectures with discussions.

Language: The course will be taught in English (level C1).
