Advanced Seminar
WiSe 17/18: Capitalism-in-nature: An Introduction to Critical Political Ecology
Lasse Thiele
Comments
This seminar will provide insights into the development of critical
thought on the relationship between capital and ecology. Current
ecological crises, climate change in particular, will be discussed in
light of the basic dynamics of capital accumulation and the historical
evolution of capitalism. We will also consider recent political-economic
conflicts in North America, including those over pipeline projects such
as Keystone XL and DAPL, in which global and local ecological, social
and economic concerns intersect and collide. The final part of the
semester will be dedicated to a discussion of various proposals for both
reforms and alternatives. close
