Der Mensch heute hat Zugang zu öffentlichen Bibliotheken und Archiven; er ist mit elektronischer Textverarbeitung und Speichermedien vertraut; nicht zuletzt benutzt er tagtäglich bewährte – in der Regel alphabetische – Ordnungssysteme, um der stark anschwellenden Informationsflut Herr zu werden. All dies war im Altertum nicht vorhanden bzw. wurde – wie das alphabetische Ordnungssystem – kaum eingesetzt. Daher drängt sich die Frage auf, wie Griechen und Römer Informationen gesammelt, geordnet und gespeichert haben. Wie waren Archive und Bibliotheken im Altertum überhaupt organisiert? Diese Fragen sollen im Hauptseminar diskutiert und in Gruppenarbeiten bzw. Einzelreferaten vertiefend analysiert werden. Regelmäßige Teilnahme, Bereitschaft zur intensiven Mitarbeit sowie Interesse an „spröden“ Texten werden vorausgesetzt. Der Scheinerwerb richtet sich nach den Vorgaben der Prüfungs- und Studienordnung.
