WiSe 17/18: Political Media Relations in a Digital Age: Comparative Perspectives
Kim Murphy
Comments
This seminar will examine theoretical approaches for comparing political media relations across different countries. This seminar critically analyses Hallin and Mancini’s Three Models of Media and Politics within the context of today’s digital media environment, in particular, the categorization of countries within the model, their understanding of a media system, and the applicability of their categories of analysis to the current media environment. Does Hallin and Mancini’s typology of media systems still offer a suitable framework for comparing media systems in today’s hybrid media environment? How have media systems and political media relations changed? As part of this seminar, students will examine in detail the media and political systems of a number of different countries. close
