WiSe 17/18: Seminar: IT Systems for Transportation Companies
Ralf Borndörfer
Comments
The planning of public passenger transport is a complex task - from the perspective of a transport planner as well as from the perspective of computer science. There are different software solutions available that solve this task. Thereby, the stages extend from the abstract planning of vehicles and personnel in advance, as well as the disposition of concrete resources in the daily control of a transport operator. Additionally, there is the data exchange with other IT systems, e.g., for timetable alignment, the distribution of information for passengers, or different payment systems, and many more. With the increasing demand for mobility, such systems become more and more important.
In the seminar, the keystones of a transport planning system shall be brought close. Thereby, three main topics will be handled: (a) composition of a planning process; (b) architecture of a transport planning system on the basis of selected examples; (c) basic algorithms of such a system. The talks are based on each other. As the basis, books as stated in the literature list below are available. In addition, different parts of an actual planning system (IVU.plan) will be made available for some talks. The focus of the seminar is on the planning process of a public transport operator.
