WiSe 18/19: Gendered histories of violence: Latin America in Comparative Perspective
Markus-Michael Müller
Kommentar
This seminar familiarizes students with theories and empirical cases that illustrate the gendered nature of (post)colonial violence by putting Latin America’s gendered history of violence into a global, comparative perspective. By focusing on topics, such as jurisprudence, sexuality, slavery, insurgencies and punishment, this seminar addresses the multiple violent ways in and through which gendered bodies, subjects and identities were crafted, enforced, resisted and negotiated in Latin America and beyond. The seminar is organized along a set of thematic and historical sessions that make students familiar with central dimensions of this topic and provide cross-regional comparisons in order to capture commonalities and differences regarding gendered histories of violence the Global South from a Latin American perspective.
