Kommentar
In the last four years, my works and artistic interest have taken a shift and placed an emphasis on performances which invite shifting perspectives and participations. This development evolved from the desire to invite people to come closer to the intensive performance experience both physically and emotionally while still maintaining the traditional proposition of the theatre experience. Over time, I became drawn to deepening the spectators’ experience by inviting more points of view, engaging other senses as well as proposing the possibility to join the choreography. This shift made me tap into skills and instincts which develop in dancers, choreographers and physical practitioners as part of their professional experience and contain the ability to bring people into a new and unexpected experience. The idea is to use the special moment of a performance as an opportunity for strangers and non-strangers to have a shared experience, even if each individual perceive it differently.
During the semester I will focus on this process in my work. We will begin with a personal seed which each participant will bring and develop a simple ritual/meeting/performance into which spectators are invited to join without previous knowledge. The participants will engage in approaches and strategies drawn from the pool of practices in the group to research different methodologies of creating a choreographic proposal which may offer an “open door” to those watching. I will share my own understanding and practices from past works and develop new ones with the participants.
