WiSe 18/19: We Should All Be Feminists: A History (2)
Susanne Schmidt
Kommentar
“We should all be feminists”: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was not the first to call attention to the problem with gender. But what does feminism even mean? Feminist thought is not a monolithic ideology. Feminism is diverse and old enough to have a history complete with an array of labels and bifurcations: liberal, radical, and socialist; care-focused, xeno, eco, and queer; post-colonial, global, intersectional, and many more. In this course, we will investigate the history, intellectual breadth, and diversity of feminist critiques. We will engage with modern and contemporary feminist thought from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds and theoretical perspectives and think through the ways in which gender intersects with race, class, colonialism, and the nation. Exploring the relation between feminist thought and history writing, we will ask, What is a definition of feminism for the 21st century. Schließen
