WiSe 18/19: Political Order and Sustainability Transitions in Comparative Perspective
Berthold Kuhn
Comments
Sustainability has become a powerful reference concept for economic, social and environmen-tal reforms that addresses global governance issues, such as climate change and poverty allevi-ation at international, national and local level.
This research oriented seminar will investigate potential tensions between input and output legitimacy and look at policy making for sustainability transitions in China, Germany, India and the US.
We shall analyze government and governance capacities for sustainability reforms and look at the role and contributions of various stakeholders, including the business sector, the media, scientific communities, non profits and consumers.
The learning objectives of the course will focus on understanding of similarities and tensions between democracy and sustainable development. Students will discuss approaches aiming to scope out ways in which these tensions might be resolved.
