The course will be given in English, except when if all participants are German speakers.
Comments
Applied Pest Science alines all biological aspects of pest organisms with respective control strategies. The course covers ecological, evolutionary, economical, legislative, historical and cultural issues of pests in material protection, human and veterinary health protection and stored products protection. Each part will last 5 consecutive lecture days.
Material Protection: Wood and textiles (Structures, chemistry, physics, economy), biology of xylophagous and keratinophagous insects, evolution of synanthropic life-form, Histroy and future of materials protections
Human and Veterinary Health Protection: Introduction to parasitology and applied entomology, terms and definitions, evolution and worldwide medical impact of human parasites, vectors and vector-associated pathogens, biology and ecology of hematophagous arthropods, biology and impact of rodents and rodent-borne diseases, historical significance of zoonoses, impact of climate change on distrubution of vector-borne diseases, invasive species
Stored Product Protection:Special capabilities of stored product insects, development of an infestation, losses, legal issues, pest prevention, monitoring and control; glance on recent projects close
